Aqualia has been awarded a contract to build and run a major wastewater plant in Cajamarca, Perú, in a deal that will bring modern sanitation to more than 365,000 people, the company announced on July 29. The award came through a public-private partnership (PPP) led by PROINVERSIÓN, Perú’s investment promotion agency.
Aqualia Wins Cajamarca Wastewater Concession
Under the 26-year concession, Aqualia (parent of MDS Aqualia) will design, finance, build, operate, and maintain the Cajamarca Wastewater Treatment Plant. The facility is set to handle an average flow of about 592 liters per second, paired with a wider wastewater collection and conveyance network.
Cleaning Up the Mashcón and Cajamarquino Rivers
The city currently discharges untreated wastewater into the Mashcón and Cajamarquino rivers. The new plant is meant to end that practice, improving public health, protecting local waterways, and raising the quality of life for area residents.
Aqualia Expands Its Perú Portfolio
The contract adds to the company’s growth across Latin America, lifting its project portfolio in Perú to nearly €1 billion. It follows the award of the Chincha Sanitation Project in 2025.
