Greeneye Technology, the industry frontrunner in AI-enabled precision spraying technology known for reducing herbicide usage by up to 94%, has announced Ori Sarfaty as its new Vice President of Research and Development. Sarfaty’s appointment followed Greeneye’s notable U.S. launch last year, and he will now lead the development of the company’s next-generation technology, expanding its applications to include new crops and inputs, thus enhancing its value proposition to farmers beyond just herbicide reduction.
A veteran of the industry, Sarfaty has an extensive career of over twenty-five years, holding senior R&D positions in global and startup organizations. His areas of expertise encompass diverse technologies, such as robotics, machine learning, and big data analytics. Of note is his 15-year tenure with Applied Materials Inc., a worldwide leader in equipment and machine vision systems for the semiconductor manufacturing sector. In this role, he led the design, development, and commercialization of numerous platforms and products as the VP of Product Development, overseeing a team of over 500 researchers and engineers.
Before joining Greeneye Technology, Sarfaty served as the VP of Research & Development at medical product manufacturer Emedgene, where he was instrumental in developing a diagnostic system for genetic diseases using machine learning and big data analytics. This was before Emedgene’s acquisition by Illumina Inc.
Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Sarfaty said, “Joining Greeneye Technology during such a critical phase in the company’s trajectory is truly exciting. Greeneye has already achieved a significant milestone by launching a precision spraying system that successfully reduces herbicide use and integrates flawlessly into farmers’ existing operations. I aim to help the company expand its operations and advance the system’s technological abilities to include other inputs and crops. Furthermore, my team and I will leverage the massive amounts of field data gathered by the Greeneye system to enhance its value for farmers.”
Greeneye Technology is revolutionizing weed control with its innovative precision spraying technology. It has demonstrated a reduction in herbicide use by up to 94% and a cost reduction of over 60% while maintaining equivalent efficacy levels compared to traditional broadcast spraying. The proprietary AI technology at the system’s core distinguishes between crops and weeds in real time and administers a precise dose of herbicide directly on the weeds. The resultant cost savings enable farmers to invest in more complex tank mixes, increasing yields and combating resistance.
Greeneye’s CEO, Nadav Bocher, shared his views on Sarfaty’s appointment, “Our commercial launch last year was a pivotal moment for U.S. farmers, who have been seeking a cost-effective alternative to broadcast chemical application. Ori’s appointment is another significant step forward. His vast experience in developing and scaling groundbreaking technologies will be invaluable as we aim to enhance our system’s technological capabilities and meet the global demand from farmers. We are thrilled to welcome Ori to the Greeneye team.”
Sarfaty holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University.
